2020 is looking like a relatively quiet year for movie releases, especially compared to 2019 and the movies due for release in 2021. However, there a few movies I’m really excited to see – but nothing on the scale of say Avengers: Endgame or Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
No Time To Die
I’m a huge James Bond fan, and therefore the 25th James Bond film is probably my most anticipated movie of the year. The first trailer looked great, and Daniel Craig has done an excellent job playing 007 so I can’t wait to see the final instalment in his tenure. Following the trailer, I am surprised how closely this appears to be a direct sequel (considering the relatively lukewarm reception to Spectre), but if it all ties together then that’s fine.
I am a little bit nervous, as the film has had a relatively rocky production with multiple writers and delays, but fingers crossed it turns out on par with Skyfall and Casino Royale.
I have no idea what this is about, but it looks like Nolan’s spiritual successor to Inception so this gets me very excited!
Top Gun: Maverick
I’ve always enjoyed Top Gun, but I wouldn’t have considered myself a huge fan. However, after seeing the trailers released so far, with the nostalgic music and real life flying this film has the potential to be incredible. Tom Cruise always delivers and this is looking very special.
Bad Boys For Life
I love the first Bad Boys movie, but I’d be lying if I wasn’t a bit disappointed by Bad Boys 2 – it has some incredible action sequences but it’s too long and not as funny as it thinks it is. However, the fact Michael Bay isn’t involved gives me some hope. The action doesn’t look like it’s quite on the scale of the 2nd movie, but hopefully that reduction in scale keeps it more in line with the first movie.
I have few other movies I’m looking forward to see, these include: -
Considering how good it is, I should have included on my most anticipated movies list, but as I’ve already seen it, it doesn’t feel right to include.
Black Widow / Eternals
I’m a big Marvel Studios /MCU fan, and the first trailer for Black Widow looks good, but for whatever reason I’m not hugely hyped for it. Maybe it’s because it feels like it’s been released a few years too late – the fact it’s set between Civil War and Infinity War feels like it should have actually been released correspondingly. It also means it (probably) won’t move the MCU forward in a post Endgame world. In terms of Eternals, I literally know nothing about these characters, so I’m more curious rather than excited at this stage.
Onward / Soul
It’s rare to see original Pixar movies, but to get two in the same year is a treat. Always love seeing a new Pixar movie.
Fast & Furious 9
I’ve grown to really like the FF series, I always liked them, but 5, 6 and 7 are the clear standouts. However, I thought Fast 8 was particularly bad, so I’m hoping the return of Justin Lin takes the series back to its stronger entries.
The King’s Man
Loved the first movie, was really disappointed by the sequel, but this looks different enough that I’m looking forward to it.
Wonder Woman 1984
Enjoyed the first movies (despite the weak final 20 minutes), but Warner Bros / DC have delivered some great movies recently – so I’m sure this will be great.
I’m sure I’ve forgot something, but these are films I’m most hyped for in 2019.
