2018 was a great year for movies, and like 2017 I really
struggled with completing my 2018 Top Ten Movies list (especially with the top 3) so
had to add some Honourable mentions.
Now, in 2019 it looks like for a 3rd year in a
row we could be getting a huge amount of potentially strong blockbuster movies with
huge amounts of hype; final instalment of the current Star Wars trilogy, final
(?) Avengers movie with OG cast, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, Aladdin
(and then you realise these movies are all being released by the same studio!)
Anyway, as usual I thought I’d produce a most anticipated
movies of 2019 list. Here goes: -
Easily my most anticipated movie of the year, I see this
very much as Infinity War Part 2 and as that was my most anticipated movie in
decades it’s no surprise Endgame ranks no 1. Although I’m desperate to know
more, I kind of like the fact we’re less than 4 months from the release and we
barely no anything about the movie. The first teaser gave nothing away and to
be honest I’d absolutely love to go into the cinema having seen nothing else
from the film.
2 - Star Wars Episode IX
I haven’t historically been a huge Star Wars fan, but The
Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were my number one movies of 2015 and 2017
respectively, so if Avengers 4 wasn’t being released this year, Episode IX
would have been my most anticipated movie.
3 - Spider-Man: Far From Home
My (joint with Batman) favourite superhero in his 2nd
MCU connected solo movie, I’m very excited for this. As with Avengers: Endgame I’m
kind of surprised how little we’ve actually seen officially from the movie at
this point. I’m a little sceptical about the synopsis that features “Spider-Man
fighting elemental creatures” as that feels a bit too fantastical for me, but
if that’s a vague way of actually including Spider villians such as Hydro-Man,
Molten Man and Sand-Man, alongside Mysterio then I guess that’s cool, but will
have to wait and see.
4 – John Wick Chapter 3
Loved the first two, so I’m looking forward to Keanu pulling
off some insane Gun-Fu action in this concluding chapter of the trilogy.
5 - The Irishman
Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci. Crime
drama?
Yep, count me in.
(Note - this was actually on my Most Anticipated Movies of 2018 list, but never came out in the end!)

6 - Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
Quentin Tarantino, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot
Robbie.
Again, no question, count me in.
7 - Toy Story 4
An interesting one, I feel like Toy Story 3 concluded
perfectly so I was sceptical about a fourth instalment, however Pixar have yet
to make a bad “Toy Story” sequel. So hoping this lives up to the franchise
quality.
8 - Alita: Battle Angel
I remember reading about this James Cameron produced movie
when I was still in school on Aint It Cool News (probably 18-19 years ago), and
it’s finally coming out in just over a month. I’ve really like what I’ve seen
in the trailers, so really looking forward to this.
The above movies are one’s I absolutely must see this year,
but there’s also quite a few that I definitely want to see and check out based
on either; impressive trailers
(Detective Pikachu / Godzilla), historical franchises affinities (Terminator /
Rambo) or genuine curiosities (ala Joker).
Anyway the full list of these movies are: -
Detective Pikachu
(New) Terminator
The Lion King
Aladdin
Glass
Captain Marvel
Joker
It: Chapter 2
Godzilla: King of the Monster
Men in Black: International
Us
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Rambo 5: Last Blood
That’s it, what movies in 2019 are you most excited to
watch?
