I can’t believe how quickly I’ve got to this point, Road To Infinity War has now reached the 2017 released Marvel Cinematic Universe
movies.
As I re-started blogging more frequently last year, I already
have a fairly recent “thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2” blogpost which
you can read, as a result this blog will be a bit shorter than the previous Road To Infinity War ones.
However, what I am finding with GOTGvol2 is that I like it
more every time I watch it, I didn’t really like it in the cinema, I came out underwhelmed
and disappointed. After rewatching it on Blu-Ray (which my previous updated
thoughts were based on) I liked it a bit more, and again watching it this week I
liked it even more.
I still don’t think it’s as good as the original, in my mind
the first Guardians of the Galaxy is pretty much a perfect film, but Vol 2 is still
a great film. The structure is a bit weird as you have quite short 1st
and 3rd acts, but a really long 2nd act with hardly any action sequence in it. This is rare for a Marvel movie, which are usually
pretty good at spacing the action sequences throughout the film (especially in
sequels where there’s no origin to set-up). Or maybe this should be applauded for
trying something new?
Anyway, the characters are so great that it’s just enjoyable
to watch them interact and to be honest that’s what most of the movie is. I do
wish the main group were together more and that the decision hadn’t been made
to split them up for so long (basically the whole of 2nd act), but
it’s good to see them mix it up a bit. Though I hope Vol 3 keep them together as
a team for the most part.
So that’s it for this Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 re-review, next week is Spider-Man:
Homecoming which I absolutely love (and also watched several times fairly
recently).
