Find out what Ross Bishop’s Top 100 films of all time
are…
I’ve wanted to write a blogpost like this on MoviePush for a long time,
however I’ve put this off because (in my mind) it is a difficult task. I watch
a lot of films and to actually collate them into a “best of list” or “top
number of” is no simple task, but I thought I’d give it a go.
But then I widen the remit and I think, what about a top ten
(or top 20? 50? 100?), it gets very difficult. Could I even begin to order them?
Comparing a high-budget action movie to an indie drama, is one really better
than the other.
Some films are absolutely amazing the first time, but then
due to a certain plot twist or resolution the intensity / enjoyment of watching
the film for the first time can never be repeated. On the flips side, certain
plot twists make films better on the 2nd viewing. Then you get
pop-corn films that I may enjoy watching multiple times, but would never say
they’re great films.
But then, what really makes a great film? Many lists
conclude that the greatest movie of all time is either The Godfather or Star
Wars, both great, both had significant impacts on cinema but neither would be
at the top of my list.
I've also got films from my childhood that mean a huge amount to me, so although technically these might not be great films I love them, so would also be included.
I've also got films from my childhood that mean a huge amount to me, so although technically these might not be great films I love them, so would also be included.
I then look at my favourite franchises – James Bond, Indiana
Jones, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Batman, Spider-Man and of course, at the moment
Marvel Studios with they’re cinematic universe. Where a whole collection of
movies could easily fill out a top 50 list. So then do I just choose my
favourites from them, but still run the risk of not including another film
because I’ve listed 5 Bond and 5 Marvel films for example.
Basically it’s a difficult task (if I’m going to do it
right), and therefore I’m doing this on the basis of my favourite films. So
shock-horror Citizen Kane, Gone with the Wind and Lawrence of Arabia are not on
this list, and you’ll obviously have a different opinion.
With all that said, I worked through the list and came up
with a staggering 100 MOVIES that I thought would be worthy to include. Therefore here
we go, these are Ross Bishop's favourite 100 films of all time.
