My Thoughts on Disney Pixar's Brave

Pixar redeem themselves.

I’m really happy with Brave, because after the poor Cars 2 (and with the increase of sequels filling the Pixar release calendar) I was beginning to think Pixar were slowly ending their golden period of cinema. But they are back on top form with an original film.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not the best Pixar movie ever, but it’s very good and I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. Also, it’s probably technically the most stunning CGI movie I’ve ever seen, with the forest and foliage really looking incredible.

The story is well told, with lots of humour, heartfelt family drama and intense action. I won't go into specifics, but the movie marketing and trailers have really only shown the first 30 minutes of the film and I don't want to ruin any surprises.

My only slight criticism is that it felt quite short and I would have wanted it to be a bit longer (which I suppose isn’t really a bad thing). This was primarily highlighted by the structure of the film, whereas most stories have a first, second and third act, Brave felt like it only had a first and second half and left a few loose ends unanswered.

But a tight and well executed movie all in all, Pixar it’s good to have you back.
